It is extremely important to stay healthy and prevent any kind of oral disease during this time. We've gathered some great tips for you with help from the CDHA to help keep your teeth and gums healthy until your next dental hygiene appointment!
Brush twice a day for 2 minutes, and if you could get a 3rd one in after lunch, even better!
Floss once a day, preferably at night time (or use your preferred Waterpik, soft pick, or proxybrush).
Brush your tongue! Or use a tongue scraper to remove bacteria on the surfaces.
Rinse, preferably with an alcohol-free and Flouride mouthwash, such as ACT, Listerine Zero, Crest Pro-Health Antigingivitis. Closys is also a great antibacterial product (also found on Amazon)
Stay nourished with a balanced diet. Try to avoid too much processed sugars.
Drink Water! Avoid sugary drinks, energy drinks and alcohol.
Manage dry mouth. Biotene, ACT rinses, lozenges, xylitol gum are all great products to help stimulate saliva and prevent cavities.
Protect your teeth! Use your Nightguards.
Stay physically active! Per CDC recommendations: 30 min/day, 5 days/week
For those of you with infants, use a clean wet face cloth to swipe your little one’s gums and tongue.
For those of you with toddlers, make it a fun activity. You can have them humm and dance to the song “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” twice, and then hand you the tooth brush to continue. Have them start getting into the habit of flossing after brushing by using a floss pick.
